Choosing the Right Stainless Steel Wire Rope

1x19 Stainless Steel Wire Rope

1x19 stainless steel wire rope is the most rigid of the common wire rope constructions. It has a clean appearance, low stretch and is well suited to straight tensioned applications where the wire is not required to bend around tight curves or pulleys.

Common uses for 1x19 stainless wire rope include architectural tensioning, bracing, trellis systems, shade sail support, display work and other fixed installations where a straighter, neater wire finish is preferred.

7x7 Stainless Steel Wire Rope

7x7 stainless steel wire rope is a semi-flexible construction used for a wide range of general-purpose applications. It is easier to bend and handle than 1x19 wire rope while still providing good strength for many marine, trade and light commercial uses.

Common uses for 7x7 stainless wire rope include marine work, general rigging, catenary wire, hanging systems, safety lanyards, shade sail support and applications where moderate flexibility is useful.

7x19 Stainless Steel Wire Rope

7x19 stainless steel wire rope is the most flexible of the common stainless wire rope constructions. It is generally used where the wire needs to bend around pulleys, drums or tighter curves, or where flexibility is more important than a rigid architectural finish.

Common uses for 7x19 stainless wire rope include winches, pulleys, control cables, running rigging and other applications involving movement, curves or repeated bending.

Stainless Wire Rope Diameters, Reels and Compatible Fittings

Wire diameter affects strength, handling, appearance and fitting compatibility. Smaller diameter stainless wire rope is commonly used for lighter-duty, display, hanging, lanyard, catenary and general tensioning applications. Larger diameter stainless wire rope is typically used where higher strength, greater visual weight or more substantial hardware is required.

Reel availability depends on the wire construction and size. 305m reels are common across many stainless wire rope sizes, with selected smaller and larger reel options available where suitable.

316 Stainless Steel Wire Rope for Marine and Trade Applications

Most of our stainless steel wire rope range is made from AISI 316 stainless steel, commonly used for marine, outdoor and architectural applications due to its improved corrosion resistance compared with lower stainless grades.

For outdoor or coastal environments, always choose compatible stainless steel fittings, swages, thimbles, turnbuckles and tools to suit the selected wire diameter and construction.
