Why choose square posts over round posts?

Square posts deliver a clean, architectural finish — sharp lines and flat faces that suit contemporary builds, modern decks, and new-build homes. They offer a more angular, design-forward look than round posts. The choice is largely aesthetic — both perform the same structural function in a wire balustrade system. What's the difference between the square post ranges?

There are five ranges to choose from depending on your finish, budget, and project requirements:

What sizes are available in the square post range?

The majority of posts in this range are 50mm (2") square, which is the standard size for wire balustrade installations. A smaller 25mm (1") option is also available for lighter-duty or decorative applications. Standard posts are 960mm in height. Premium Customisable posts are custom made to order.

Do the posts come pre-drilled for wire fittings?

Most posts in this range come pre-drilled at 80mm spacing for wire fittings, in either right-hand thread (RHT) or left-hand thread (LHT) configuration to suit your tensioners. Stair posts are always custom-made (there are no off-the-shelf wire balustrade stair posts).

Is black powdercoated stainless available, or only aluminium?

Both. The range includes black powdercoated 316 stainless steel posts as well as powdercoated aluminium. For coastal or salt-air environments, the powdercoated aluminium is the right choice — black powdercoated stainless is not recommended for corrosive locations.

Do you stock stair railing posts for angled runs?

Square wire balustrade stair posts are always custom-made — there are no off-the-shelf stair posts in this range. Request a quote with your stair angle and we'll configure the right posts for your project.

What handrail suits square wire balustrade posts?

Square posts in this range are primarily available for flat (top rail) handrail. Timber handrail is a popular choice for residential decks where a warmer finish is preferred alongside the clean lines of square posts. How do I care for stainless steel balustrade posts?
