Stainless Steel 12G x 50mm 304 Decking Screws from Better Hardware are trade quality, have high corrosion resistance and will last a long time under most environmental conditions. These screws are perfect for decking projects more than 300 metres from the coast. Saline environments are highly corrosive and usually require higher grade stainless steel 316 decking screws.
Suitable board thickness and width
A minimum embedment of 25mm into the joist is required, so board thickness of 19-24mm is recommended. These 12 gauge screws are suited to wider boards, commonly 140mm wide. Thicker heavier boards would either require 12G x 65mm decking screws or perhaps batten screws.

Pre-Drilling and Countersinking is recommended
The decking screw's type 17 point aids in carving through the timber, however we recommend pre-drilling and countersinking when fixing hardwood boards. This ensures a smooth effortless installation that will reduce friction which can cause softer metal screws like stainless steel to more easily snap or burr.
